Brothers Grimm

1957 Olympia SM3 1052558

Apparently I had my numbers mixed up… the younger brother is actually the older one, by 2 years. I have no idea how I got that wrong. Perhaps I was looking for connections that didn't exist.

If you have a place in your heart for Wilhelm, send me an email! (schreibstang at gmail dot com) I'm not expecting a really valuable machine in trade, I'm open to really any good condition manual portable typewriter that I don't already have but want.

Sent from my new Olympia SM3, Jacob Grimm

  1. If you cut down your collection by trading it for new typewriters, you're not averting suffocation! :)

By the way, your fiction shows that you do have a knack for coming up with names.

    1. Ouch. Well, at least it's suffocation by fresh faces?

I suppose I do, and I always have, but also that I lack the confidence in that ability to create anything that isn't silly or part of a silly story or character.

  2. I'd love to adopt. My brother, sister and I are all adopted, so adoption is cool! Also it's nice to acquire a typewriter that's been loved and cared for, and has a good story to tell. I've only just recently developed a good feeling for Olympia's, as the SM9's I've had were kind of lackluster to me, and I gave them away. But when I found an SM4 for $40.00, I tickled the keys a bit and instantly fell in love! Unfortunately It was promised to a friend, so I only owned it for a few "too short days", and am now looking for my own SM 3-4. I've got several "extra" writers of all sizes and kinds that could use a good new home. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll give you the list. Can't think of a better new caretaker than you! Of course I feel that like houses, we are only caretakers who leave our mark on them over the years, then pass them on. Thanks!

  3. So, on December 23, 2014, Wilhelm Grimm finally completed his journey to his new home in southwest Wisconsin. So I guess he's back in the midwest, closer to his original home in Michigan. He is very much appreciated, and will have a good home, and set beside his younger brother Bradley [SM-9 of 1976.]
    Merry Christmas to all!
